The International Society of Business Leaders Recognizes Ron van Amsterdam, PhD
Dr. Ron van Amsterdam is the Senior Director and Head of Project Management Europe and the Global Portfolio Manager of Urology and Nephrology for Astellas Pharma Europe B.V. He has been in team leadership roles in the pharmaceutical industry, in all phases of drug discovery and development since 1984. He specialized and particularly enjoyed the 12 years in clinical research and clinical program management and the 9 years of taking care of project management resources across cultures and his active role in globalization at Astellas.
Some of Ron’s former experience includes 14 years at NV Organon. He also worked in clinical pharmacology and was responsible for the preclinical pharmacology and clinical development of synthetic antithrombotic carbohydrates. At Pharming and Astellas, Ron worked with physicians in the field building medical and clinical scientific expertise in immunology and infectious diseases projects until his move into line management.
He holds a Masters in Biology & Medicine from the Free University of Amsterdam (1984), and a PhD in Allergy and Hyperactivity in Asthma from the University of Groningen (1988). He also holds a Diploma of Pharmaceutical Medicine from University of Surrey and participated in master-level modules on leadership and ‘managing virtual global teams’ in Business Administration and Management at INSEAD in Paris. He is a Member of Astellas’ Global Project Management Leadership Team and takes part in the Astellas Leiden Site Management group, is a member of PMI and certified in Lean&SixSigma.
In his spare time, he enjoys playing Big Band trumpet, and running. Concerned with giving back, he is involved with various charities, including the Cancer Foundation, Asthma Foundation, and Wildlife Foundation. He resides in The Netherlands, near Den Bosch.
