My name is Rick Steele (www.rick-steele.com)  I am a highly qualified clinician in acute and internal medicine, but also a public health specialist and educator. I am quite possibly the best super generalist alive. I am moderately successful at balancing 3 lives: 1. a very busy and lucrative professional life, 2. I keep healthy and in shape and love my family, a loving wife, 3 healthy grown-up children with two grandchildren, and 3. author, coach and speaker. I have 3 major goals for the next 5 years:

1. To get a model program based on my strategy Managed Care in a Public Setting and start a much needed revolution in the delivery of healthcare and social services,
2. To corral the evidence based freight train so that evidence is only used where relevant and timely, rather than the near religious nature of the phenomenon today, and
3. To become known as the “go to” rehabilitation expert – if I cannot see the best rehab plan for a given patient, no one can.

My book, Managed Care in a Public Setting boldly and forcefully defines the future of healthcare and social services. It takes the best of the US managed care philosophy and the European public sector philosophy to create the theoretical background for and a practical set of guidelines to achieve the best possible integration of services with huge benefits for the health of the public and achieve the lowest possible level of care while adhering to the highest possible quality standards. This is made possible through a serious reduction in hospitalization and concomitant upgrading of primary care. This work is the preliminary culmination of my life’s work,which can only get better by actually implementing this strategy, which is getting closer and closer to reality as time goes on.
