Biography :I am an active researcher in many areas of taxation (including tax administration, compliance, international taxation, and history), publishing in peer reviewed academic and professional journals in Australia, Asia, Europe (including UK), New Zealand and the United States. I lead an active PhD and graduate programme in taxation at the University of Canterbury, and am involved in teaching undergraduate students. I completed a 12 month secondment as Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Business School on 31 March 2012. I have served on all of my University’s major committees (Learning and Teaching, Financial Planning, Research, and Academic Board) and most College committees (Executive, International, Research, Postgraduate and Learning and Teaching).Outside of the University I remain involved as a facilitator, reviewer and examination panel member for NZICA’s Professional Accounting School. I have also been a consultant at various times for the NZ Inland Revenue, Treasury and the Royal Society of NZ.My main areas of research interest are tax administration, behavioural tax compliance, e-commerce, environmental taxation, the interaction of taxation and accounting, taxpayers’ rights, international tax (including international organisations), tax history, and the teaching/research nexus in taxation. I am also interested in individual insolvency and bankruptcy issues.I am involved in teaching at all levels from first year undergraduate to graduate students, including supervising currently 5 PhD students. I teach in both the business school and the law school.I am also involved in many areas of academic administration, including committees involving research, budgeting and academic matters in my University. I have recently served as Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean for my College.In the accountancy profession I am actively involved as a founding contractor to NZICA’s Professional Accounting School, as facilitator, reviewer of study plan material, examination writer and marker.
