Melinda was born and raised in Hawaii. At a young age, she developed a passion for the creative arts in the dancing and acting areas. She continued her studies at Concordia University, where she received a BFA for Visual Arts and Dancing. Although she worked in the visual arts field for many years, Melinda soon discovered that she had a deeper calling in life. Melinda started her business Hamakua Sacred Arts in order to heal other people. She also wanted to incorporate the body due to her dance background. Her business brings together different healers to come together for retreats in Maui. Melinda believes in a higher power and believes in the energy around us all. She incorporates these traits into her retreat as well. Melinda is hoping to continue her work with nonprofits and profit organizations. She also wants to incorporate ecotourism into her business as well. Melinda is an avid yogi and is a passionate writer. She writes poetry and is even writing her own book based on personal experiences.
