Steven Abdelmalek has been a key contributor in Kaiser Permanente’s (KP) Technology Risk Office for the past four years, serving as a Director of strategic services for the past two years. He has a broad level of experience having managed large IT programs and initiatives for close to 15 years. Some highlights during his career include being part of the program management team that rolled out KP’s electronic medical record, known as KP HealthConnect, to healthcare provider’s largest membership region and leading the project that deployed 200+ self-service membership KIOSKs for check-in and co-pay collection. Both of these efforts were the largest deployments of their kind at the time of implementation and vastly improved the healthcare system’s capability to serve it’s member’s needs.

In his current role, Steven specializes in program and project management for technology risk initiatives that enhance KP’s security posture and ensures adherence to healthcare’s regulation requirements for the protection of member data. These strategic initiatives span across the CyberSecurity, Identity and Access Management, Technology Risk Management and IT Compliance functions at KP. In other words, Steven plays a crucial role in supporting KP’s protection against security breaches that prevent a patient’s personal information from being tampered with or stolen.

Steve has a passion for transformational initiatives and projects. He is very focused on bringing business value to every effort that he undertakes and he is always looking for opportunities to introduce innovation, whether it is revamping the interview process to find qualified candidates for his area’s of responsibility or researching outside the box solutions to improve technology risk management.

Steve has his MBA from George Washington University and he currently resides in Garden Grove, CA.
