The International Society of Business Leaders Recognizes Winston Costa Pereira, PhD
Dr. Winston Costa Pereira is currently serving as the Principal Clinical Scientist of Prince Sultan Military Medical City (PSMMC), a premiere medical laboratory based in Saudi Arabia. With over 10 years of experience, he heads the center’s stem cell laboratory and is involved in the isolation, storage and transplantation of cord blood, as well as peripheral stem cells. Overseeing the staff in all matters pertaining to the daily operation of cord blood banking and collection, he also trains new staff and is involved in troubleshooting various issues within the department. Dr. Pereira is an expert in quality control analysis and in the process of Stem cell banking. He has recently created a stem cell barcoding and tracking system inventory management process and an automated cord blood processing facility at PSMMC. He personally verifies and documents the lab’s medical reports and records, ensuring that all results verifications and the HLA database remain up-to-date and compliant with all industry best practices and regulations.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from St. Xavier’s College, he went on to earn a master’s degree in Biochemistry from Goa Medical College. He earned his PhD in Immunology from Kasturba Medical College, for which he received the T.M.A Pai gold medal at the convocation ceremony. He has been trained to be a JACIE inspector to inspect upcoming Stem Cell laboratories. He is also a certified SixSigma (ASCB Europre) Green belt holder.
A prolific researcher, Dr. Winston Costa Pereira has completed two postdoctoral research assignments, of which one was in Stem Cells. He has also published in peer-reviewed journals. He has a keen interest in pursuing a challenging career in Stem Cells and one of his current interests lies in using Stem Cells as a cure for HIV.
Dr. Pereira is fluent in English and Hindi. Prior to joining Prince Sultan Military Medical City, he served as the Laboratory Director of UniStem Biosciences Pvt Ltd, Gurgaon, India. Outside of his research and professional endeavors he is an active member of the community, having served as president of the Indian Junior Chamber, which was focused on the development of youth and community in general. During his tenure as a Jaycee president, he put a lot of stress on childcare, such as organizing childcare week programs, Healthcare checkup by Government doctors for school children, helped the Government in the Pulse polio immunization campaign by ensuring that every child was immunized. He had a lot of Government support, as it was a social service done for the betterment of the community. He even built a park for children to play.
